Project description
Designed by Powerhouse Company, THIS. Amsterdam forms a mixed-use ensemble of offices and residential buildings in Buiksloterham, directly overlooking the IJ. The project combines urban density with open water views and a carefully designed green landscape, creating a new, sustainable district within the city.
For the façade, anodized aluminium in AluCopper 03 with a matt etched finish was selected. The deep copper tone introduces warmth and character to the contemporary volumes, while the etched surface softens reflections and enhances material depth. As daylight changes, the façade subtly shifts in nuance, reinforcing the building’s dynamic relationship with sky and water.
Beyond its visual impact, the anodized finish offers long-term durability, colour stability, and low maintenance. In a development aiming for high sustainability standards, the choice for anodized aluminium supports both architectural refinement and lasting performance.
THIS. Amsterdam demonstrates how colour and surface treatment can shape identity at an urban scale, bringing warmth and precision to a forward-looking waterfront development.
