The symbiosis between privacy and view
A Symbol of Transformation and Unity
The building, resembling a reed collar, emerges from the Molenwetering landscape, transforming a former waste treatment plant site. Acting as a gateway to the city center, it integrates housing and home furnishing stores. The "reed collar" concept symbolizes the water-land transition, blending privacy and views, with a dynamic facade layering. Accessible via a ramp, the parking facility on the second floor enhances the building's dynamics.

Project Description
The building rises like a spacious reed collar from the landscape of the Molenwetering, on the spot where a waste treatment plant previously formed the 'back' of Alphen aan den Rijn. The location has been transformed into a portal to the center with the Alphen top segment of housing and home furnishings stores. The 'reed collar' wraps itself like a semi-transparent screen around the various functions in the building and makes it into a unit. The reed collar symbolizes the transition from water to land, the symbiosis between privacy and view. The facade gives the building a plastic and dynamic layering. The ramp to the parking facility on the 2nd floor makes the dynamics of the building as a whole tangible.
