Project Description

Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland was designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the Japanese architectural firm SANAA. The sketch design was chosen after a competition among renowned architectural firms because of its special architecture. The design is characterized by simplicity and straight, clean lines. A large low building, approximately 100 meters wide and approximately 100 meters long, projects into the Weerwater from the edge of the theater café. Three blocks of different sizes and heights catch the eye: the stage tower of the main hall (the hall has almost 1000 seats), the middle hall (350 places) and the small hall (150 places). All exterior facades are made of glass. In places where a closed facade is necessary, the wall is covered with glass. Everywhere in the building there are light plays and sightlines to the water. Thin walls, roofs and floors complete the design.
