Project Description

Keeping and strengthening the green character and the level differences of the location form the basis of the design for the Montessori College Nijmegen. In reaction to the slope of the Kwakkenberg the volume of both new buildings gradually goes from south west to north east, with roof terraces and roof gardens on the sunny south and west side and overhangs on the north and east side. In order to preserve the cultural historical value of the adjecent convent complex and not to exceed the scale of the surroundings, the two new buildings differ in shape andare made up of several partial volumes with their own materialisation of wood, aluminium cladding and enamlled glass. Both the wood and the aluminium are designed as vertical strips varying in width. The MAVO/HAVO/VWO-building has bronze coloured aluminium cladding and the VMBO-building silver colour cladding so that both buildings have their own recognizable identity.
