From wartime scars to vibrant city life in Rotterdam’s heart
OurDomain Rotterdam stands on historic ground deeply scarred by the 1940 bombings that leveled the city’s heart. Tangram Architects transformed this once-vacant site into a 70-meter tower housing over 600 apartments. Its aluminum facade, etched with patterns evoking wartime rubble, honors Rotterdam’s resilience and post-war reconstruction.
At night, it becomes a beacon of light, symbolizing hope and renewal, blending history with modern urban living.
They are a collective of architects, designers, engineers and dreamers. All inspired by the possibilities of double anodizing.

About
UNStudio’s design for the TBC complex in Tbilisi, Georgia, is based on the theme of togetherness and connections. This overarching theme is activated through Social Nodes, Nature and Technology. In the design for the panel, hexagons are split by triangular stars that reconnect at different angles and with different thicknesses, creating a new appearance. At the same time they are part of the same pattern, which echoes the concept for the project’s narrative: Diversity + Connection.

About
OurDomain, a 70-meter-high tower for 620 appartments in Rotterdam, stands on historic ground where German bombs destroyed the city center on May 14, 1940. Designed for students and young professionals, the building marks this significant location with a unique façade of etched aluminum. A previously undiscovered photo of the bombed site the day after was used, pixelated, cut up and enlarged. This abstract treatment aesthetically conveys the destruction, subtly yet powerfully keeping the memory of the past alive.
